A Sneak Peek: Inside a NYC Agency
This month's feature: Ikon New York Model Management

Ikon was founded in 1996 by former model Cynthia Saldana-Aktipis. Cynthia's goal was to establish a sincere, honest agency with strong values and high standards. It is this spiritual, positive belief, which is the driving force behind this agency's success.Ikon opened its doors over 10 years ago. In just a few short years, it quickly became a major force in the competitive New York modeling and talent market. The boutique-style agency prides itself on consistently serving each client's needs as well as fulfilling the models' and actors' career goals. Ikon Model Management represents models for fashion/beauty, commercial/advertising and editorial/runway. As a result, each model is developed to their fullest potential, allowing them to cross over into more than one market. The Ikon Artists Division represents both its models and actors in commercials, television and film.

In the past seven years, Ikon has been continuously growing and expanding. Our newest divisions include Creative Services (photographers, make-up artists and stylists), Ikon Athletes and Celebrities.

A good agency will help you as the model or actor to determine the right market for you, develop your look and materials and help train you for the clients needs. The agency will also handle what type of work can I expect to get?
An agency cannot and should not guarantee you the work. That will be up to the clients Idea of what they are looking for and how well you sell yourself to them.

You can expect your agency to submit and introduce you to clients who are appropriate for your look. For example if you are a female 5'9-5'11 or a male 6' to 6'2 with angular features you would be right for fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, and Elle and fashion designers such as Gucci, Prada, Calvin Klein just to name a few. If you have an exceptional face you may be considered for beauty work where there is no height requirement. Some clients for hair, skin, and cosmetics would be Clairol, Redkin, Aveda, Almay, Maybaline and L'Oreal. A girl next-door look might land you an introduction or submission for a national TV commercial or print ad for Colgate, Reebok, or Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion or catalog work for sears, JC Penney, LL Bean or Polo. If you have an attractive or average look middle age to seniors you may be great for a wide variety of products and commercial print advertising..
